“Food for Thought,” the artistic-glass store across from Mission San Juan Capistrano, is the latest merchant to put up the “going out of business” signs, but there is a bright spot downtown: A new restaurant is coming into the Depot.
The owners of Gemmell’s French Restaurant in Dana Point plan to open a steakhouse next to Sarducci’s. The restaurant, “The Vintage Steakhouse,” will open in mid-January and replace the now-shuttered Rendezvous restaurant.
From the owners: “The Vintage Steakhouse features Classic American Cuisine with a twist. Creative and imaginative dishes that burst with flavor using farm fresh ingredients prepared by an award winning chef.”
The full menu wasn’t available for review, but the lounge menu advertises a “Vintage Burger” for $9.95 and the House Smoked Trout for the same price. The Vintage Steakhouse is expected to open in mid-January. The eatery will also be open for lunch.

Is San Juan so boring that the arrival of a restaurant in town warrants a news story? Or is it the fact that San Juan's glut of merchants who try to peddle useless crap to tourists is failing miserably?
